i can answer all of your questions with one simple phrase, 'anime logic'. ;)

because it is: twisted, unrealistic, fantastical, and makes alot of folks go 'huh?'.

there's another phrase i like to use in these situations, 'it happened like that, because the writer said so.'

this episode is one of those without a murder or even anybody dying; except the suspect's spouse, who's death has no fault or criminal involved in this case at all. this was a harmless 'it was a hot Summer day in Beika City and suddenly...' slice of life case.

just a few episodes ago didn't you comment something like, 'if there was a slice of life Conan, i would watch every one of them.' ??

i've always wondered why one of the pronunciations of Kogoro's last name is the same as 'forest' ... it is peculiar hmm? why did Aoyama-sensei decide to name his bumbling detective, forest?

It sounds similar, but Mouri's name has an elongated o (similar to Yoko). It's not super obvious to non-native speakers though. So it's not completely homonymous with Mori, that's just a matter of subber preference.

see, when i listen to it with my BT headphones linked to my laptop, using an HDMI cable to my TV, streaming the videos through Wi-Fi, i hear almost everything perfectly. whereas most folks need speakers and a decently acoustically neutral room. which we all know, unless you retrofit your 'home theater room' or build it from scratch it won't be acoustically neutral.

when i hear it, even when Kogoro says it himself, both voice actors BTW Mr. Kamia (who got fired) and Mr. Koyama who's playing Kogoro these days... to me it sounds like mo or moe ... the Third Stooge. like the mo in motion. and ree like ... hurry. i don't hear a long o, i hear a short o. just like the first syllable in his first name. ko. or the board game go.

that's why i was thinking it was a homophone with 森 forest...mori... like one of the goofy word-play quizzes Prof A gives the kids. even when i have Google Translate or Bing say forest to me with their 'machine' :> it sounds the same. :>

i started out with Eng dubs in the 1990's but after 2000 i expanded into around 60 or 70% of the anime i was watching subbed... these days it is closer to 90% subbed for the past 15 or so years. i'm familiar with alot of the sounds of Japanese, but like you said fansubbers spell it how they wish. :D

7:58 - I know it's crazy, but I have a theory. I think that the wife is completely someone else who is trying to frame somoene by giving them evidence for a case that we don't even know so far. Maybe that camera has some incriminiating evidence, but then again, the roulette manager could just say that's a lie.

Hey, wait a minute. I think I understand what is going on here. What if one of the children of Shiina is dead because of Oowada, hence the funeral dress? This gives Shiina a motive to indirectly get him in a dangerous situation.

16:02 - This might be the deduction show, so let's build a theory here. The main reason why Shiina is spreading these rumors is because the doctor is the one that crashed with her husband. Because the doctor is respected, I think the other victim of the accident was given some bias, which angered Shiina. I also think that Shiina was spreading those rumors so that Oowada would be put on the spot so that he is completely pressured by everything, or get into a dangerous situation.

21:24 - I'm relieved that instead of solving a murder, he stopped a murder. This is why I really look up to him. Oh well, I'll give myself a third of a point for getting the gist of it.

Thoughts rn: I really really like this case, it's pretty simple but the rumors part was extremely well done. It's pretty dramatic for Conan to impersonate Mori at this point, but it would seem extremely goofy to hear that "you shouldn't kill" from a kid. Plus, Shiina seems to be the kind of person who would gossip, so I think Conan played the safe choice, as if he showed himself, it's possible that the B.O might notice these rumors of a smart kid stopping a murder.

I thought the case was okay honestly
